Hence, you hear folks say scientists have faith in their beliefs the same as religious people. This is a false statement, especially in regards to "faith". #1 definition of "faith" is "confidence something is true", with no comment about WHY you have that faith. Hence, there is reasoned faith based on evidence, and there is blind faith, hardly analogous but easily confused.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16171597662480189480noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-41556320087604196042014-02-06T08:16:44.627-08:002014-02-06T08:16:44.627-08:00Hello anonymous. I don't have "beliefs" related to scientific research, so single moves don't destroy those beliefs that aren't there. It is the preponderance of evidence that I find convincing. It's just that you were doing exactly what I described in the original post, citing single quotes from a single study in 1997 and another from 2004 to make your argument. There have been thousands of reports coming to the opposite conclusion. And when you make arguments accusing scientific researchers of chasing money, what are we to think of tobacco companies? They, of course, are only interested in the public health and interest I imagine.

No, I just don't want to give a stage to pseudoscience or corporate shills. You are welcome to start your own blog and make whatever arguments you wish.

Thank you for your interest, however.Garry Hayeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00531226195147986457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-40600252194923370722014-02-06T07:41:13.223-08:002014-02-06T07:41:13.223-08:00So I take it you don't like being made the foo...So I take it you don't like being made the fool and having your life long beliefs destroyed in a single move! Those who hate ambiguity the most tend to be religious and politically conservative.
Those who are ok with ambiguity tend to be politically liberal and less religious. These people tend to prefer being correct over being certain -- you can't know you're correct unless you're willing to consider alternatives.Randy A.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-12992315951270155322014-02-05T12:32:43.828-08:002014-02-05T12:32:43.828-08:00I liked your analogy! As a civil engineer who once tried to believe creationism and has since been born again to a belief in science and reason I am disheartened by many of my fellow engineers who are creationists. Too many otherwise reasonable people don't believe the evidence because of their indoctrination into religious fallacies like creationism. I hope some of those who are on the fence realize the evidence is overwhelmingly supportive of evolution. Keep up the good work spreading the word, Garry.Chas in Albuquerquehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02661279033818731729noreply@blogger.com
