I haven't been to any of the Sierra caves but the images of wavy graphite in the marble fascinates me. Oregon Caves, where I once worked, is a block of marble broken off the Sierra.Gaelynhttp://geogypsytraveler.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-63909564458607737492012-10-21T16:06:28.256-07:002012-10-21T16:06:28.256-07:00Thanks, Garry. It is an overall term for all of the features found in caves.Garry Hayeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00531226195147986457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-54453439815982329802012-10-21T14:05:19.241-07:002012-10-21T14:05:19.241-07:00So, I hear that the old terms Stalagtite/Stalagmit...So, I hear that the old terms Stalagtite/Stalagmite are wrong; They've been replaced by speleotheme, or sumat sim'lar. Is this true? If it is, why not use words with mnemonics built right in? -tite holds tight to the ceiling, -mite stands tall and mighty on the floor.

What's up wit' dat?
Edie Howehttp://littleredtent.net/LRTblognoreply@blogger.com
