National Park/Monument designation draws many more tourists, sometimes to the point where it does great harm--and there are extreme examples in Utah. Also "vast majority of Native Americans" is a stretch I believe. For sure there are a significant number of local Indians against it. e.g. see High Country News http://www.hcn.org/issues/48.18/the-bid-for-bears-ears-national-monument

I offer this for consideration, discussion because I feel that if we're gonna persuade folks on the fence, we need to have our stories straight. Errors in the past have made me a lot more careful, especially living where I'm in the minority re conservation.Hollishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10788942181934895493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5211670216140060946.post-70519428030398258762016-12-30T06:14:01.005-08:002016-12-30T06:14:01.005-08:00Utah senator Mike Lee not only wants to repeal the...Utah senator Mike Lee not only wants to repeal the establishment of this important monument but also exempt Utah from the Antiquities Act, probably for the very reasons you cited. And with the current Rethuglican Congress, he might be able to do it...dinogamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14959197175594052460noreply@blogger.com
