New Rock Fall in Yosemite

1987 rockfall near Elephant Rock at west end of Yosemite Valley (G. Hayes)

From local television station KCRA , a Yosemite thread (pictures, scoll down), and Geology.com , some info on a pair of rock falls in Yosemite Valley that damaged some cabins and injured several people. Needless to say, a place with vertical walls of jointed granite thousands of feet high is going to have rock falls on occasion, actually lots of occasions. We had the first major storm of the year last weekend with snow and freezing temperatures in the high country, so this activity was no surprise.
